What Does God Want From Me?

Well, to me it’s not “either/or” but “both/and”. Life is both a Journey, and a destination … and also a layover!

A journey God has granted me with family and friends, success and errors, trials and tribulations, to experience and learn from this world what is truly desirable and to share that with others.

A Life of destinations, goals, achievements and life events, a sprinkling of waypoints dotting a map from which I can correct course, set my sights, refresh my soul and resume the journey. An epic odyssey of a lifetime of adventures!

A layover in this world, created from the beginning “good” by God, temporarily marred with the sin of man, making the best of it, changing it for the better, repenting of my selfish ways, inviting the Holy Spirit of God to live in and through me before departing to eternity in which I (with the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ) behold the face of God in a renewed world we are truly destined for.

I am here for a short time, but it is enough time to do exactly what God wants from me. What does God want from me… for me to seek him, to know him, to love him and to serve him by loving others in this life, so I can be with him for eternity in the next life.

The Resolution

Happy New Year!

I love new beginnings, fresh starts and resolutions! I think it has to do with the realization that I fall seriously short in many aspects of my life and sometimes all I  want is a “redo”!  I look to the future, to bigger and brighter days, to days full of good habits, good friends and good memories; despite my own shortcomings.  I see this internal battle not only in myself but Continue To Read More

In God We Trust

“In God We Trust”, in such simple language, reveals the simple creed of A Nation’s faith.

It’s not the president, the Federal Government or the Federal Reserve we trust!   It’s not the Democrats or the Republicans!  It’s not flags, cakes, monuments or the media we place our Trust.  Our trust is not ensconced in the institutions of healthcare, the FDA or the EPA or the Pastor at the local church, our friends, neighbors or ourselves!  Our Nation’s Trust – is in God! Seeking An Out of this World Love?

You are Loved!

That is not a mistake!  Despite our failed past experiences, or our current bad relationship, we are nevertheless loved beyond measure.  Where is this love and how can I find it?  Deep inside, we all seek to find an “out of this world” love, but it seems all we experience in this world is rejection, frustration, disappointment and suffering!  Often times, our eagerness to love and to be loved leads us to making bad decisions and we are left unfulfilled, cheated and disappointed.  How can we desire “Love” if the object of our desire doesn’t seem to exist?

The world will hate those that are not of the world!  Deep down you may feel lonely, outcast, rejected, unwanted and abused physically, mentally and emotionally!  You may feel you don’t fit in, are not listened to and quickly forgotten about!  You may feel empty, drained, unwanted and angry but this is not you!  You may feel a void in your life, that something is missing.  You feel as though you are made for someone or something greater!  You are created for Continue To Read More

Spiritual Powerhouses!

Who is your favorite sports figure?  Think about that.  Why do you like them?  It’s probably because they have achieved a level of performance that exceeds their peers.  To get to that professional level took a lot of devotion, practice and preparation!  Years of hard work, perseverance, determination and a lot of mistakes along the way formed a foundation of principles that helped them exceed their amateur levels!  Our spiritual life is no different!  Great men and women and Saints of the Church have achieved levels of holiness most of us only passingly muse about.  It’s tragic how in a society that is “performance based” we really don’t give a second thought about our own spiritual performance. The Seed

God is love. God loves you more than you can ever humanly imagine.  His capacity for love is boundless, yet God wills that we know his love.  So, he humbled himself.  He chose to become man, to dwell among us, to dine with us and to save us from sin and death.  He came to plant the seed of this Divine love.  Through Jesus of Nazareth, God came into the world to pour out mercy and love for all.

A sower went out to sow.  And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up.  Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil.    ~ Matt. 13:3-9

seekknockask.comIn the parable of the sower, Jesus is the sower par excellence.  The Word of God is the seed.  Our hearts are where the seed will fall.  Our heart is the field; thorny, rocky and barren with the consequences of sin, hopefully eager for the fruit of new life.

I will remove the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. ~ Ezekiel 36:26

The Universal Call

Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. ~ Leviticus 19:2

The Catholic Church calls all of us to Universal Holiness!  In the Vatican II document, Lumen Gentium , it states,

“We must follow in the footsteps of Christ and conform ourselves to his image seeking the will of the Father in all things.  We must devote ourselves to the Glory of God and the service of neighbor.”

In order for the graces of the Holy Spirit to work within me for the Glory of God and the love of neighbor I must have a proper disposition to approaching God which means I must “die to self”.  At the river Jordan, John the Baptist says in John 3:30,

He must increase, but I must decrease
